Before you decide

Start with the clinical questions.

A health form starts a review. It does not confirm eligibility or guarantee a prescription. Your medical history, other medicines, the exact product, and the follow-up plan all matter.

  • 01Your historyHealth conditions, medicines, and goals
  • 02The evaluationA clinician determines clinical fit
  • 03The productIngredient, form, route, and approval status
  • 04Follow-upSide effects, monitoring, and refill review

Know which product is being discussed.

Semaglutide and tirzepatide are different ingredients. A familiar ingredient name does not tell you a preparation's FDA approval status, route, indication, or safety instructions.

Semaglutide

Wegovy is an FDA-approved semaglutide product with injection and tablet presentations. The current label describes different weight-management populations for the two forms. Read the product comparison and the official Wegovy label.

Tirzepatide

Zepbound is an FDA-approved tirzepatide injection with its own adult indications, contraindications, warnings, and instructions. Discuss the exact product with a clinician. See the official Zepbound label.

Wegovy and Zepbound labels carry boxed warnings about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents; it is unknown whether these drugs cause these tumors in humans. They are contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. The labels contain other warnings and contraindications. Discuss pregnancy, contraception, other medicines, and your medical history with the clinician.

Cost and insurance

Ask what the price includes.

A consultation, medication, laboratory tests, supplies, and shipping can have separate costs. Visit coverage does not establish medication coverage. Confirm a provider's current price, inclusions, renewal rules, and refund terms before paying.

  • Is this a visit fee, a membership, or a medication charge?
  • Which exact medication is being considered?
  • Does the plan cover this product and use?
  • Are labs, refills, supplies, or shipping charged separately?
  • What happens if treatment is not appropriate?

The care steps

Evaluation, pharmacy, and follow-up.

  1. Clinical evaluation

A licensed healthcare professional reviews the information needed for a decision. More information, tests, a live visit, in-person care, or another treatment may be appropriate.

  2. Pharmacy processing

If prescribed, medication still requires pharmacy review and fulfillment. Availability, payment, coverage, product checks, and shipment are separate steps.

  3. Continued care

Follow-up gives you a chance to report side effects and discuss treatment. A refill request is reviewed separately; monitoring and labs depend on the individual plan.

Common questions

Questions before treatment.

Does an intake form guarantee medication?

No. Intake is followed by a clinical evaluation. A licensed clinician decides whether a treatment or prescription is appropriate.

Are compounded GLP-1 medicines FDA-approved?

No. FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness, or quality before marketing. Approval of a branded product does not transfer to a compounded preparation.

Is every GLP-1 product a weekly injection?

No. Different products have different routes and instructions, including FDA-approved oral semaglutide tablets. Ask for the exact product, dosage form, and approval status.

Is treatment appropriate during pregnancy?

Weight loss during pregnancy offers no benefit and can pose fetal risk. Discuss pregnancy or pregnancy plans with the prescriber promptly and follow the specific product's safety instructions. Semaglutide and tirzepatide labels contain product-specific pregnancy and contraception guidance.

How should I handle urgent symptoms?

Follow your medication's safety instructions. Seek urgent medical care for severe or sudden symptoms, including severe abdominal pain or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Call 911 if you may have a medical emergency. Do not wait for an administrative email or refill message.
